BERLIN, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and 22 others injured after a fire broke out in a German hospital, local media reported on Friday, citing the police.
Of the injured, six were classified as serious, said a spokesperson for the fire service.
The injuries were mainly caused by smoke inhalation and burns, and the fire brigade quickly extinguished the blaze, said the report.
The fire broke out late Thursday on the third floor of the hospital in the town of Uelzen, about 100 km south of Hamburg in the northern German state of Lower Saxony. The blaze soon swept through multiple patient rooms, prompting firefighters to rush to the rescue of numerous individuals.
The extent of the impact of the fire and the resulting damage remained unknown. ■
