MANILA, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Philippines barred 171 foreign nationals convicted or involved in sex offenses from entering the country in 2023, the country's Bureau of Immigration (BI) said Friday.
BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said 153 people were registered sex offenders, while the rest were either charged with sex crimes or similar offenses.
Of the 171 sex offenders, 129 were Americans, Tansingco said.
Immigration agents barred the entry of the aliens under a provision in the immigration act, which forbids the entry of aliens convicted or charged with crimes involving moral turpitude, Tansingco said.
Tansingco said the excluded foreign nationals were placed in the list of undesirable aliens to ensure that they cannot enter the country in the future. ■
