UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday announced the appointment of Maj. Gen. Erdenebat Batsuuri of Mongolia as force commander of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus.
Batsuuri succeeds Maj. Gen. Ingrid Gjerde of Norway.
Maj. Gen. Batsuuri most recently served as the chief of staff at the Mongolian Air Force Command. He has been deployed in eight UN and NATO peacekeeping and peace support operations, including in Iraq, Sierra Leone, Sudan and South Sudan. ■
