BEIRUT, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- Three Lebanese civilians were killed on Wednesday at dawn in an Israeli raid on their house in Lebanon's southern town of Bint Jbeil.
Lebanese military sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Xinhua that an Israeli warplane fired two air-to-surface missiles at a civilian house in the center of Bint Jbeil, killing three members of a family and wounding a fourth one.
Hassan Bazzi, a volunteer in the Lebanese Red Cross, told Xinhua that the slain civilians were pulled out from under the rubble of the destroyed house and transported to a nearby hospital.
The sources said Israel launched three aerial raids early Wednesday in the central and western sections of southern Lebanon. At the same time, Israeli artillery also bombed areas in the eastern and western parts with about 30 shells.
They added that 12 missiles were launched from southern Lebanon towards northern Israel and intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome missiles, two of which exploded in the airspace of southeastern Lebanon.
The Lebanon-Israel border witnessed increased tension since Oct. 8 after the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets toward Israel in support of the Hamas attacks on Israel the previous day, prompting Israel to respond by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon.
The clashes between Hezbollah and Israeli forces killed 183 on the Lebanese side, including 128 Hezbollah members and 35 civilians, according to Lebanese security sources. ■
