BUENOS AIRES, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- Diego Martinez has reached an agreement with Boca Juniors to be the club's head coach next year, the Argentine outfit said on Tuesday.
The 45-year-old replaces Mariano Herron, who was appointed interim manager in November following the departure of Jorge Almiron.
"The club and the coach are working on the final details of a contract," read a statement on Boca's social media accounts.
Martinez became available after stepping down as manager of Huracan last week.
Boca Juniors endured a frustrating 2023 season, losing the Copa Libertadores final to Fluminense and missing out on a place in next year's edition of South America's premier club competition because of their poor domestic form.
Martinez is expected to begin in his new role on January 2. ■
