ISTANBUL, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- The November shopping spree has pushed Türkiye's e-commerce turnover near 1.5 trillion Turkish liras (51.1 billion U.S. dollars), the state-run Anadolu agency reported Tuesday, citing a business insider's estimation.
"The sector has largely achieved its turnover target of 1.5 trillion liras set for this year (2023) with the November campaigns," Turkish E-Commerce Association Chairman Hakan Cevikoglu was quoted by the report as saying.
He added that shopping campaigns like Black Friday, which falls on Nov. 29 in the United States and traditionally marks the start of the Christmas shopping season, as well as China's online shopping event known as "Double Eleven" on Nov. 11, contributed to the growth.
Turkish online retail website Hepsiburada said its sales on Nov. 11 alone hit 2 billion liras, with the best-selling categories being fashion, home products, and accessories.
The e-commerce sector also expected a further boom with a local campaign scheduled on the last Sunday of 2023 to offer a wide range of opportunities to melt their stock at a more affordable price, according to Cevikoglu.
According to the report, the sector expects a turnover of 2.7 trillion liras in 2024. ■
