BEIJING, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.14 percent to 2,918.81 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.38 percent higher at 9,256.28 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices totaled 608.1 billion yuan (about 85.64 billion U.S. dollars), down from 732.5 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in the coal industry led the gains, while those in the hotel and tourism sectors suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.31 percent to close at 1,831.57 points on Monday. ■
