NEW DELHI, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- Restrictions on movement of vehicles and construction activities were once again imposed in Delhi on Saturday given rising air pollution levels.

The state's Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that the air quality index (AQI) in the national capital had entered into the "Severe" category, and restrictions on movement of traffic and construction activities were hence imposed.

The federal government's Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) ordered a ban on non-essential construction work and plying of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers in Delhi and it is surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) amid worsening AQI in the region.

An AQI of 447 was recorded in Delhi which comes under the "Severe" category, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data showed.
