BEIJING, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines from the past week:

1. China takes 2 titles at BWF World Tour Finals

China clinched both the women's doubles and mixed doubles titles at the 2023 BWF World Tour Finals in Hangzhou, China, on December 17.

In the women's doubles final, defending champions Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan of China encountered little challenge from South Korean duo Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee before claiming their 21-16, 21-16 victory.

Mixed doubles world No. 1 Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong of China defended their title with a straight-game victory 21-11, 21-18 over compatriots Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping.


2. China taekwondo team clinches two more Olympic berths

Both Luo Zongshi and Xiao Shunan took silver medals in their respective categories, earning two more Olympic berths for China at the 2023 World Taekwondo Grand Slam Champions Series in Wuxi, China on December 17.

Despite a 2-0 defeat against Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Tatiana Minina of Russia in the women's 57kg final, Luo secured her qualification with Grand Slam points advantage.

In the women's +67kg final, Xiao lost to Polina Khan of Russia 2-1, but has already secured the ticket to Paris by reaching the final.


3. China to begin 2025 FIBA Asia Cup qualifying campaign in Xi'an

China will start its 2025 FIBA Asia Cup qualifying campaign in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province on February 22, 2024.

China is placed in Group C of the qualifying tournament, alongside Mongolia, Guam and Japan. With a total of six groups, the top two from each group will qualify for the Asia Cup directly. The six third-placed teams will enter a playoff to decide the last four berths.


4. World No. 1 Sun lifts singles, doubles trophies at 2023 Women's WTT Nagoya

World No. 1 Sun Yingsha of China won the women's singles title and teamed up with Wang Manyu to claim the women's doubles crown as well at the 2023 Women's World Table Tennis (WTT) Finals in Nagoya, Japan on December 17.

Having lifted the trophy at the WTT Cup Finals Xinxiang 2022 and WTT Cup Finals Singapore 2021, Sun accomplished a hat-trick in the season-ending championships.


5. China takes 2 golds at ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup

China collected two gold medals at the 2023-2024 ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup in Seoul on December 17.

In the men's 500m race, Liu Shaoang surpassed South Korean Seo Yi-ra at the last moment, and won the first gold medal for China with a time of 41.196 seconds. In the men's 5,000m relay final, Liu Shaoang, Li Wenlong, Ren Ziwei and Sun Long took the second gold for China.
