COLOMBO, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan police have arrested over 10,000 suspects in connection with drug-related offenses and other criminal activities in a recently launched operation, the police said on Friday.
The police said in a statement that they made the arrests in an operation launched on Dec. 17 to curb drug trafficking and organized criminal activities.
According to the police, 517 of the 10,456 suspects arrested have been held under detention order for further interrogation.
The police have also seized drugs including heroin and vehicles involved in crime.
Sri Lankan Public Security Minister Tiran Alles said earlier that the government would continue the police operation despite any difficulty. ■
