QUITO, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Bolivian striker Marcelo Moreno has parted ways with Independiente del Valle after less than a year with the Ecuadorian club.

The announcement came two days after Independiente lost the final of Ecuador's LigaPro championship to LDU Quito on penalties. Moreno was among three Independiente players who failed to convert in the shootout.

"Thank you Independiente del Valle, an excellent club full of great professionals," the 36-year-old said on social media.

Moreno scored just four goals in 26 appearances across all competitions for the Quito-based club, having arrived in March on a nine-month deal with the option of a one-year extension.

"Thank you very much Ecuador. To all the fans who always treated me well, many successes for you," Moreno added.

He did not reveal details of his future plans, saying only that he is ready "to experience the new professional challenges that come."

Moreno announced his retirement from Bolivia's national team in November after an international career spanning more than 16 years.

He is Bolivia's all-time leading scorer with 31 goals in 108 international matches.

The center-forward's career has included spells at Shakhtar Donetsk, Flamengo, Werder Bremen, and Changchun Yatai, Wuhan Zall and Shijiazhuang Ever Bright, among other clubs.
