MADRID, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Football fans in Spain will be able to listen to discussions between referees and the VAR (video referee) after an agreement announced between the Spanish Football League (La Liga) and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on Tuesday.
The agreement means that in the New Year the two organizations will make recordings of conversations between officials over controversial decisions available at the end of the day that matches are played.
However, these conversations cannot be broadcast live as the rules of the International Football Association Board do not allow it.
"This initiative marks a new scenario of collaboration and joint work between the RFEF and the Referees' Technical Committee (CTA) with La Liga, with the aim of providing refereeing in professional football and the competitions themselves with greater transparency," announced the RFEF and La Liga in a joint statement.
"With the broadcast of the images and audios once each day of competition has ended, the experience of the fans will be improved and a greater understanding of the referee decisions will be promoted, this improving the competitions as a whole," they add.
The VAR has seen plenty of controversy in La Liga, as in other leagues, with issues such as handball especially controversial, but a thaw in the relations between La Liga and RFEF following Luis Rubiales' resignation as RFEF President, has helped the two organizations reach this accord. ■
