ISTANBUL, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Turkish security forces have rounded up a total of 1,209 illegal immigrants in the northwestern province of Edirne in November, state-run television TRT reported on Monday.

The seized illegal immigrants had been sent to the migration office in Edirne, according to the report, without specifying any details.

Provincial gendarmerie command teams have tightened up inspections in Edirne's city center and the surrounding districts, where the illegal immigrants were captured, in an attempt to crack down on illegal immigration.

Edirne, located in Türkiye's Thrace region, is close to the border with Greece and Bulgaria.

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya has promised to intensify measures to combat illegal immigration not only in the country's largest city of Istanbul but all other provinces.
