BUENOS AIRES, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Boca Juniors are set to appoint Diego Martinez as their head coach for the 2024 Argentine top flight season, according to widespread media reports in the South American country.
The 45-year-old is the first-choice candidate of Juan Roman Riquelme, who was voted the club's new president in an election on Sunday, news outlet Ole reported.
Martinez became available after stepping down as manager of Huracan last week.
He will replace Mariano Herron, who was appointed interim manager in November following the departure of Jorge Almiron.
Boca Juniors endured a frustrating 2023 season, losing the Copa Libertadores final to Fluminense and missing out on a place in next year's edition because of their poor domestic form. ■
