COLOMBO, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Sri Lankan police will launch a special operation starting from Sunday to curb organized crimes and drug-related activities, Public Security Minister Tiran Alles said on Saturday.
The minister told the media that he directed the police to take stringent measures against drug smuggling and organized crimes, after a meeting with the senior police officers
He requested the public to actively support the police in their efforts to combat drug-related crimes and other criminal activities.
On Nov. 26, the Sri Lankan police, Special Task Force (STF) and army jointly carried out a pre-dawn raid in the suburbs of Colombo and arrested over 40 people. ■
