RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Former Liverpool and Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho could return to his original club Vasco da Gama next year, according to media reports in Brazil.
Coutinho, who is contracted to Aston Villa until June 2026, is currently in the middle of a year-long loan with Qatar's Al-Duhail.
According to newspaper O Globo, Vasco has made preliminary enquiries about the possibility of signing the 31-year-old on loan when his Al-Duhail agreement expires.
Coutinho was a part of Vasco da Gama's youth academy before earning a four-million-euro move to Inter Milan as a 16-year-old in 2008.
Vasco finished 15th in the 2023 Brazilian Serie A standings, just two points clear of the relegation zone. The next Brazilian Serie A season begins in April 2024. ■
