SAN JOSE, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Costa Rica will meet El Salvador in a friendly in February 2024 as part of preparations for a Copa America playoff, the country's football federation said on Wednesday.
The encounter will be played at the National Stadium in capital San Jose at 8pm on February 2, the federation said in a statement.
The match falls outside of FIFA's international window, meaning clubs are not obliged to release their players.
It will be one of the last opportunities for Costa Rica boss Gustavo Alfaro to test his squad before the playoff against Honduras in Frisco, Texas on March 23.
The other playoff will be played between Canada and Trinidad and Tobago at the same venue and on the same day.
The 2024 Copa America will be played in 14 U.S. cities from June 20 to July 14. ■
