NEW DELHI, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Three people, including a woman, were killed and over 20 others injured Wednesday after an overhead water tank collapsed at a busy railway station in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal, police said.

The tank collapsed at Burdwan railway station, about 104 km northwest of Kolkata, the capital city of West Bengal.

"Today an overhead water tank on platform numbers 2 and 3 at Burdwan railway station collapsed, killing three people and injuring 27 others," a police officer said, adding that the injured were shifted to the Burdwan Medical College hospital.

According to the officer, the water tank was made of corrugated metal sheets.

Immediately after the accident, locals and railway officials at the station rushed to the spot to help the injured.

The accident disrupted services at the junction.

Local media reports said railway authorities have ordered a probe into the tank collapse and suspended work of three employees.
