BUDAPEST, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Hungarian parliament voted to adopt a legal package aimed at safeguarding the nation's sovereignty against external influences here on Tuesday.
The approved bill introduces the establishment of a Sovereignty Protection Office and enforces stringent penalties for any breach of the ban on foreign campaign financing.
The legislation, which passed with a vote count of 140 in favor, 50 against, and no abstentions, entrusts the Sovereignty Protection Office with the responsibility of compiling an annual report scrutinizing organizations that might leverage foreign funding to sway election outcomes.
The move comes in response to concerns raised regarding the exploitation of foreign funds in previous elections. ■
