JERUSALEM, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Israel deployed a Sa'ar 6-class corvette in the port of its southernmost city Eilat on Tuesday following a series of attacks launched by Yemen's Houthis toward Israel and against Israel-linked vessels in the Red Sea.
The German-made Sa'ar 6-class warship anchored in the port of Eilat for the first time after "a situational assessment and as part of enhanced defensive efforts," the Israeli military said in a statement.
The warship was deployed in the area more than two months after the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza on Oct. 7. The Houthis said their attacks were aimed at revenging Israel for attacking the Gaza Strip.
The vessel is one of four Sa'ar 6-class corvettes that became fully operational this week after two years' preparation by the Israeli Navy, the military said. ■
