ISLAMABAD, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- A total of 25 soldiers and 27 terrorists were killed in separate clashes between the security forces and the militants on the night between Monday and Tuesday in Dera Ismail Khan district of Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a statement released by the country's military said on Tuesday.

In one incident, in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, 23 soldiers were killed when a group of six terrorists attacked a security forces' post and attempted to enter it, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army's media wing said in the statement.

"The attempt was effectively thwarted, which forced the terrorists to ram an explosive-laden vehicle into the post, followed by a suicide bombing attack," the statement added.

The resulting blasts led to the collapse of the building, resulting in casualties on the security forces' side, the ISPR said, adding that all six terrorists were killed in the clash.

Clearance operations are being conducted to eliminate any other terrorists present in the area, the statement added.

In a separate clash, 17 terrorists were killed when the security forces took action in the district on the reported presence of terrorists.

In another intelligence-based operation in the district, two soldiers and four terrorists were killed in the district, the ISPR said.

The killed terrorists were actively involved in numerous terrorist activities against security forces as well as the killing of innocent civilians.

Weapons, ammunition and explosives were also recovered during the operations, the statement added.
