MEXICO CITY, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Tigres UANL striker Andre-Pierre Gignac could miss the second leg of his side's Liga MX semifinal against Pumas UNAM as he struggles to recover from a groin injury.
The 38-year-old Frenchman was absent from his team's 1-0 away win in the first leg on Thursday and trained separately from his teammates on Saturday, newspaper El Universal reported.
His unavailability will likely prompt Tigres manager Robert Siboldi to again hand a starting berth to Argentine striker Nicolas Ibanez for the match at Estadio Universitario on Sunday.
The winner of the tie will play either Club America or San Luis in the final. The former romped to a 5-0 away win in the first leg of their semifinal.
Tigres are hoping to become only the fourth team in history to win back-to-back Liga MX trophies, emulating Pumas in 2004, Leon in 2013-2014, and Atlas in 2021-2022. ■
