RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Portuguese coach Abel Ferreira will continue in his role as Palmeiras manager in 2024, the Brazilian Serie A champions said on Friday.
Ferreira cast doubt over his future on Wednesday when he said he needed time to reflect after leading Palmeiras to their second consecutive Brazilian top-flight title.
But in a meeting with Palmeiras president Leila Pereira on Friday, the 44-year-old said he would see out the remaining 12 months of his contract.
"Abel Ferreira reiterated that he has a contract in force with Palmeiras until December 2024," Palmeiras said in a statement.
"Leila and Abel evaluated the targets achieved by the club in 2023, with the victory of three titles in five competitions played. We'll now continue to plan for next season together with the technical committee and football department," it added.
Ferreira has guided Palmeiras to nine trophies since taking charge of the club in October 2020. Among them have been two Copa Libertadores titles and two Serie A triumphs.
According to widespread local media reports, the former Sporting Lisbon right-back had been offered a lucrative deal to join Qatar's Al Sadd. ■
