BEIJING, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines from the past week:

1. Chinese marathoner Yang breaks national record in Fukuoka

China's Yang Shaohui refreshed the men's marathon national record at the 2023 Fukuoka International Marathon on December 3 in Fukuoka, Japan.

Yang clocked two hours, seven minutes and nine seconds to finish second in the men's race, improving his personal best by 40 seconds and lagging one second behind winner Michael Githae of Kenya.

The 31-year-old broke the previous record of 2:07:30, set by his compatriot He Jie in this year's Wuxi Marathon.

China's Feng Peiyou finished sixth in 2:08:07 to secure the third Chinese men's marathon ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.


2. Snowboard star Su triumphs in big air at FIS World Cup

China's snowboard sensation Su Yiming secured victory in the men's big air at the FIS World Cup in Beijing, repeating his triumphs from the 2022 Beijing Olympic Winter Games.

With a stunning 1800 and 1980 performance respectively in the first two runs, Su clinched the win in advance with 184.50 points and felt at ease in the third run to savor the competition.


3. China's Ningbo to host 2026 World Weightlifting Championships

Ningbo in China's eastern coastal province of Zhejiang will host the 2026 World Weightlifting Championships, following the 2024 edition in Manama, Bahrain and the 2025 edition in Forde, Norway.

The International Weightlifting Federation announced in a statement after a vote by the IWF Executive Board, meeting on Sunday in Doha, Qatar, that Ningbo has experience in successfully staging international sports events.

The venue will be Ningbo Olympic Sports Center, which was built in 2019 with a 10,000-seat capacity.


4. China secures 1-2 finish at women's snowboard Halfpipe World Cup

China's veteran Olympians Cai Xuetong and Liu Jiayu clinched the top two spots in the FIS women's snowboard Halfpipe World Cup held at the Genting Snow Park on December 8.

Cai claimed the title with a best score of 93.25 points from her third run, followed by Liu with 85.75 and Maddie Mastro of the United States with 85.50.

In the men's category, the only Chinese snowboarder having reached the finals, Wang Ziyang, finished sixth with 73.50.


5. Chinese international Wang Shuang joins Tottenham women's team

Chinese international Wang Shuang has inked a contract with Tottenham Hotspur and is set to represent their women's team until 2026, the North London club announced on December 8.

Wang, 28, is slated to wear the number 77 for Spurs' first team starting January 1, 2024, following the conclusion of her contract with Racing Louisville. She will join her national teammate Zhang Linyan in London, as the 22-year-old joined the Women's Super League side earlier this year.


6. Gu Ailing wins Freeski Halfpipe World Cup gold at Genting Snow Park

Beijing 2022 Olympic champion Gu Ailing won the FIS Women's Freeski Halfpipe World Cup held at the Genting Snow Park on December 9.

Gu scored over 90 points in all three runs of the finals. She achieved the game's highest 94.25 in her second attempt, significantly surpassing the eventual silver medalist, American skier Hanna Faulhaber, whose best score was 82.25.
