BEIRUT, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- A Hezbollah fighter was killed, and four civilians were wounded on Wednesday due to Israeli artillery and missile shelling targeting areas in southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese military sources.
The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Xinhua that the Israeli bombing and air strikes targeted 17 towns and villages in southwest Lebanon, and 11 in the southeast of the country, destroying five houses and damaging 15 others.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah said its fighters on Wednesday carried out 11 attacks on 11 Israeli sites and gatherings.
The Lebanon-Israel border has witnessed increased tension since Oct. 8, after Lebanese armed group Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets toward Shebaa Farms in support of the Hamas attacks on Israel the previous day, prompting the Israeli forces to respond by firing heavy artillery toward several areas in southeastern Lebanon.
The confrontations between Hezbollah and Israel killed 132 on the Lebanese side, including 91 Hezbollah members, a Lebanese army soldier, one member of the Amal Movement, 14 members of Hamas and Islamic Jihad, and 25 civilians, including three journalists, according to security sources. ■
