AMMAN, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Secretary-General of the Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs Abdullah Kanaan on Monday urged the world and international organizations to pressure Israel to comply with international resolutions, recognizing the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and to defend their occupied land.

In a statement published by the state-run Petra news agency, he said that Jordan, both its people and leadership, will remain a supportive pillar for the Palestinians, holy sites in Palestine, and Arab land in Palestine and Jerusalem, regardless of the cost and sacrifices.

Kanaan added that 464 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank since the beginning of the year, 256 of whom have been killed since Oct. 7, the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict in the Gaza Strip.

In addition, more than 3,500 Palestinians have been detained in the West Bank since the start of the aggression in Gaza.

He called for immediate protection for the Palestinian people who are deprived of their basic rights to life and decent housing, stressing that the Israeli government must realize that security and peace cannot be achieved by killing the Palestinian people and demolishing their homes.
