MEXICO CITY, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- French striker Andre-Pierre Gignac scored two first-half goals to set Tigres UANL on their way to a 3-0 home victory over Puebla in the second leg of their Liga MX quarterfinal on Sunday.
Gignac gave the hosts an ideal start when he converted from the penalty spot after Diego de Buen brought down Fernando Gorriaran.
The 37-year-old doubled the advantage just after the half hour as he curled a free-kick into the top right corner.
Tigres were in cruise control for most of the second half and Nicolas Ibanez made it 3-0 with a spectacular overhead volley following Vladimir Lorona's cut-back from the right byline
Puebla's fortunes took another turn for the worse in the 89th minute when Gabriel Carabajal was shown a straight red card for violent conduct.
The result at Estadio Olimpico Universitario gave Tigres a 5-2 win on aggregate and set up a semifinal fixture against Pumas.
The latter progressed to the last four earlier on Sunday following a 3-0 home victory over Guadalajara. It meant the Mexico City side prevailed 3-1 on aggregate in their quarterfinal. ■
