SUVA, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- As the holiday season approaches in Fiji, a local health expert has warned of an elevated risk of infectious diseases during this period, urging parents to stay vigilant with their children's health conditions.
Ilisapeci Vereti, head of the Pediatric Department at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital here in the country's capital, said on Monday that there is also a need for comprehensive care and swift medical intervention to ensure a healthy and joyous festive season.
Special attention should be paid to the vulnerabilities of children, reported the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation news website citing the doctor as saying.
She noted that the impending hot season tends to bring about a surge in infectious diseases, such as chickenpox and hand-footed mouth, so proactive measures should be in place. ■
