The further development of Vietnam-China relations accords with the aspiration of the Vietnamese people, Nguyen Phu Trong said, believing that the "comradely and brotherly" friendship between the two countries will be cemented through joint efforts.
HANOI, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- China and Vietnam share the same aspiration and destiny, which is the most distinctive feature of bilateral relations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday.
During his meeting with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong, Wang said under the strong leadership of the CPV Central Committee headed by Trong, Vietnam has achieved political and social harmony and stability, vigorous economic development and continuous improvement of its international status, expressing confidence in Vietnam to achieve its set strategic goals.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said the top leaders of the two parties have established solid political mutual trust and profound comradeship, steering the course of bilateral relations and providing important strategic guidance.
"In order to implement the strategic consensus reached by the top leaders of the two parties, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang and I co-chaired the 15th Meeting of the China-Vietnam Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation this morning and reached a series of consensus on promoting cooperation in various fields in the next stage," the foreign minister said.
China appreciates that Vietnam has always taken relations with China as its strategic choice and top priority in its diplomacy, and China also takes relations with Vietnam as a priority in its neighborhood diplomacy, Wang said.
On the basis of 15 years of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries, it came about naturally that the two sides reached a consensus on upgrading bilateral relations, Wang said.
This is in line with the common aspirations and interests of the two countries, conducive to regional and world peace and development, and will open up brighter prospects for bilateral relations, he said.
Noting that Vietnam and China are linked by mountains and rivers, Trong said the "comradely and brotherly" friendship between the two countries is particularly unique in the world.
The general secretary of the CPV Central Committee said he traveled to the Youyi Pass, or Friendship Pass, on the China-Vietnam border recently to plant a friendship tree. The border port, which is the only one named after friendship among neighbors, highlighted the traditional friendship cherished by Vietnam, he added.
The further development of Vietnam-China relations accords with the aspiration of the Vietnamese people, Trong said, believing that the "comradely and brotherly" friendship between the two countries will be cemented through joint efforts.
Calling Trong's deep feelings toward China very touching, Wang said he is confident the China-Vietnam friendship will surely flourish and be fruitful.
Also on Friday, Wang met with Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, respectively. ■
