CAIRO, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Egyptians abroad on Friday started voting for the 2024 presidential election.
The National Election Authority announced that 137 embassies and consulates in 121 countries receive voters 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. local time for three days starting Friday.
Four candidates run for the presidency: incumbent President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, the Social Democratic Party's Farid Zahran, the Egyptian Al-Wafd Party's Abdel Sanad Yamama, and Hazem Omar, the People's Republican Party candidate.
Egyptian voters abroad must have a valid Egyptian passport or a valid or expired national ID card to be able to vote as long as they haven't been convicted of any crime.
Egyptians living in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE and Qatar recorded the highest voting rates in previous elections.
In Egypt, the presidential ballot will take place from Dec. 10 to Dec. 12. If no run-off is required, the results will be announced on Dec. 18. ■
