Pakistan announces squad for Junior Hockey World Cup 2023

ISLAMABAD, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) on Wednesday announced the country's men's national hockey team that will feature in the 2023 Junior Hockey World Cup in Malaysia next month.

PHF Chief Selector Asif Bajwa announced the 18-member squad for the upcoming tournament to be held from December 5 to 16.

Bajwa added that Hanan Shahid would lead the team as captain, while Roelant Oltamans will serve as the team's head coach.

The 16 teams to participate in the tournament are Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Egypt, France, Germany, India, South Korea, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and Spain.

Teams are divided into four groups, with Pakistan being placed in Group D along with Belgium, the Netherlands and New Zealand.

Pakistan, who won the first edition of the tournament in 1979 in France, will play their opening match against New Zealand on December 7.
