DAR ES SALAAM, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Flash floods caused by ongoing heavy rains have killed eight people, including three children, in Tanzania's northern region of Tanga in the past three weeks, the police said Tuesday.

Tanga regional police commander, Almachius Mchunguzi, said the floods swept the victims to death in Tanga, Muheza and Handeni districts in the past three weeks ending Monday.

Mchunguzi said the heavy rains have also damaged the region's infrastructure, especially roads and bridges.

On Aug. 25, the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) issued an advisory for the September-December rainfall season, saying the season is more likely to be influenced by El-Nino conditions. The TMA said the rains were expected to cause flooding and disruption of transport and businesses in some parts of the country.
