KIEV -- Ukraine and Italy have launched consultations on providing security guarantees for Kiev, the Ukrainian presidential press service said Tuesday.
A bilateral agreement on the security commitments to Ukraine by Italy will be based on the Joint Declaration of Support for Ukraine adopted by the Group of Seven (G7) in July, it said. (Ukraine-Italy-Ties)

TEHRAN -- The Iranian Army has tracked and identified a U.S. aircraft carrier in the Gulf of Aden and the Sea of Oman, the official news agency IRNA reported on Tuesday.
"The intelligence systems of the Navy of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) tracked and identified the aircraft carrier through the exchange of information with the army's naval forces and thanks to their complete dominance over the Strait of Hormuz," it said. (Iran-U.S.-Ties)

WELLINGTON -- The Reserve Bank of New Zealand's Monetary Policy Committee agreed on Wednesday to maintain the official cash rate (OCR) at a restrictive level of 5.5 percent that it has been since May.
The Monetary Policy Committee agreed that interest rates will need to remain at a restrictive level for a sustained period of time so that consumer price inflation returns to target and supports maximum sustainable employment. (New Zealand-Monetary-Policy)

HARARE -- The Zimbabwean government has stepped up its fight against the cholera outbreak that continues to ravage Harare, the country's capital, as well as other districts across the country.
Jenfan Muswere, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, said Tuesday that there were 1,744 new suspected cholera cases reported during the week ending Thursday, compared to 1,259 registered the previous week. (Zimbabwe-Cholera-Fight) ■
