ISLAMABAD, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- At least eight people were killed and several others injured when a fire erupted in a shopping mall in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi of Sindh province on Saturday, government officials said.
Spokesperson of the Sindh government Murtaza Wahab told Xinhua that 15 to 20 people are still trapped in the multi-storey building, and a search operation continues to rescue them.
He added that fire tenders, snorkels and a bowser are taking part in the operation to bring the fire under control.
According to police in the area, the fire broke out on the second floor of the building and spread to other floors afterwards, adding that the police are investigating the cause of the fire.
Following the incident, police and rescue teams reached the area and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals, where at least six injured are in critical condition. ■
