BEIJING, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines from the past week:

1. 2023 China Basketball Hall of Fame inductees unveiled

The inductee list of the 2023 China Basketball Hall of Fame (HOF) was unveiled in Beijing on November 23.

The inductees include China's first national basketball team captain Huang Boling, the top scorer of the 1978 FIBA World Championship Zhang Weiping, and three-time Asian Championships guard Kuang Lubin as outstanding male athletes.

The 1959-1972 China's women's basketball team captain Li Shihua, and 1992 Olympic Games silver medalists Liu Qing and Li Xin were inducted as outstanding female athletes.

Liu Guiyi, who first called on fast-paced basketball in China, and Chen Daohong, who led the Chinese women's basketball team to secure silver in the 1994 World Championship, were inducted as outstanding coaches.


2. China dominates 16th World Wushu Championships

The 16th World Wushu Championships (WWC) came to an end on November 21 in Fort Worth, Texas, with China topping the gold medal tally with 15.

Athletes from China garnered seven golds in Taolu and eight golds in Sanda in various weight categories.

Vietnam and Macao, China finished joint second with five golds each, plus three silvers and three bronzes for Vietnam, and two silvers and four bronzes for Macao, China.

China also topped the overall medal tally with 15, followed by Vietnam, Macao, Malaysia and Indonesia each with 11.


3. S. Korea beat China in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier

Son Heung-min scored a brace and assisted one goal to help South Korea beat China 3-0 in Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Asian Zone qualifying tournament second stage in Shenzhen, China on November 21. In the other Group C match on the same day, Thailand secured an away victory over Singapore 3-1.

China now sits in third place in Group C with three points, behind South Korea (6 points) and Thailand (3 points, led by goal difference).


4. China women's national football team head coach Shui steps down

Shui Qingxia, head coach of China's national women's football team, stepped down on November 20 as her team failed to qualify for the Paris Olympics after a 1-1 draw with South Korea on November 1.

"Due to the team's failure to qualify for the Paris Olympics, the contract with the coaching team was automatically terminated, and Shui Qingxia no longer serves as the head coach of China women's football team," the Chinese Football Association (CFA) announced.

Under Shui's charge, China won the 2022 Women's Asian Cup but did not progress from the group stage of the 2023 Women's World Cup, and lost to Japan in the semifinals of the Hangzhou Asian Games.


5. China wins Women's Sitting Volleyball World Cup title

China won the women's title at the 2023 World Paravolley (WPV) Sitting Volleyball World Cup with a dramatic 3-1 win (25-23, 25-16, 17-25, 25-20) over Canada in Cairo, Egypt.

The tournament in Cairo offers one ticket to the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games for the winner or the highest-placed non-qualified team. As China had already secured qualification earlier this year, the spot goes instead to Canada.
