KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's labor productivity measured as value added per hour worked fell 0.9 percent in the third quarter to 42.2 ringgit (9 U.S. dollars) per hour, official data showed on Thursday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that total hours worked in Malaysia rose 4.2 percent to 9.4 billion hours.
Meanwhile, labor productivity as expressed by value added per employment continued its upward trend, gaining 0.6 percent to 24,465 ringgit per person.
Looking at the sectoral performance for labor productivity measured as value added per hour worked, the construction and services sectors steered the overall performance by posting an increase of 5.2 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively.
The manufacturing sector posted a negative growth of 4.5 percent, while the agriculture sector as well as the mining and quarrying sector recorded negative growths of 1 percent and 0.4 percent, respectively. (1 U.S. dollar equals 4.68 ringgit) ■
