ALGIERS, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Algeria and Türkiye on Tuesday sealed 13 agreements and memorandums of understanding (MOU) on boosting bilateral cooperation during the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Erdogan signed a joint declaration during the second meeting of the High-Level Cooperation Council between Algeria and Turkey.
A total of 12 MOUs and an agreement between Algeria's state news agency and Türkiye's Anadolu Agency were inked. The deals aim to enhance cooperation in the fields including space, culture, education, energy, hospitals, media and consumer protection.
During their joint press conference held at the Presidential Palace in Algiers, Erdogan said that he and Tebboune were satisfied with the strong relations between their countries.
The Turkish president projected an increase in bilateral trade to 6 billion U.S. dollars by the end of the current year, with hopes of reaching the targeted 10 billion dollars.
On the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Palestinian enclave of Gaza Strip, the two presidents emphasized the need to hold "Israeli officials accountable before the International Criminal Court for the atrocities being committed in the Gaza Strip."
Tebboune said that the words of condemnation should be followed by decisive actions to halt Israeli expansionism and restrain "settler terrorism against Palestinians", including in the West Bank.
Erdogan voiced Türkiye's opposition to the Israeli assaults in Gaza, labeling them as "collective punishment and war crimes."
Erdogan said Türkiye's priorities in Gaza are achieving a permanent ceasefire and delivering humanitarian aid unhindered.
The Turkish president arrived earlier on Tuesday on a one-day official visit to Algeria. ■
