CHARIKAR, Afghanistan, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Police have arrested five drug smugglers and seized illegal drugs from their possession in east Afghanistan's Parwan province, Fazal Rahim Maskenyar, the spokesperson of the provincial police department, said Wednesday.
In the operation, police seized 8 kilograms of hashish, 30 grams of heroin and some objects used in manufacturing heroin, the official said, adding further investigation is underway.
In another development, recently, local police have discovered 44 kilograms of hashish in the northern Takhar province and arrested five people over their involvement in illegal drug business.
Afghan police have also foiled the attempt to smuggle 73 kilograms of illegal drugs in Maiwand district of the southern Kandahar province a couple of days ago.
The Afghan caretaker government has vowed to fight against illegal drugs, cultivation of illicit crops including poppy, processing of drugs and drug trafficking. ■
