MAIMANA, Afghanistan, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Police have discovered a massive weapon cache containing a variety of arms and ammunition in north Afghanistan's Faryab province, a statement of the provincial police office said Tuesday.
During the search operations, police found the weapon cache in the Qaisar district and discovered 28 light and heavy assault rifles including some machine guns, the statement said, adding more than 10,000 bullets, projectiles, and 30 hand grenades were also discovered from the cache.
Similarly, police discovered 15 assault rifles including 13 AKM in the Andarab district of Baghlan and three pieces of assault rifles from Dara-e-Suf Bala district in the northern Baghlan province a couple of days ago.
The Afghan caretaker government has vowed to collect arms and ammunition from anyone living outside security organs as part of efforts to stabilize law and order in the war-ravaged country. ■
