LASHKAR GAH, Afghanistan, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- At least six commuters were killed as a vehicle plunged into a water canal in south Afghanistan's Helmand province on Monday, said Mawlawi Mohammad Qasim Riaz, deputy head of the information and culture department of the province.
The deadly accident took place in the Garmsir district due to the carelessness of the driver, the official said, adding the victims included two women, three children and the driver.
Ramshackle road conditions, lack of safety measures during travel on congested roads, old vehicles, and reckless driving have often been blamed for road mishaps in Afghanistan. ■
