ZARANJ, Afghanistan, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Police discovered illicit drugs including opium poppy and heroin, and arrested two alleged drug smugglers in west Afghanistan's Nimroz province, an official said on Monday.
According to provincial director for counter-narcotics police Abdul Wasi Raihan, police arrested two drug smugglers and confiscated 25 kg of opium poppy and 100 g of heroin from their possessions on Sunday.
The case has been referred to the judiciary for further investigation, he said.
Similarly, police in Kabul have taken into custody six people on the charge of involvement in theft. Besides discovering a Kalashnikov and a pistol from their possessions, police also found 7 million afghanis (about 101,000 U.S. dollars) of stolen cash recently and returned it to its owners who were two local businessmen, Kabul police said in a statement on Monday. ■
