BUENOS AIRES, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Miguel Merentiel scored late as Boca Juniors edged to a 1-0 home win over Newell's Old Boys in Argentina's Primera Division on Sunday.
The Uruguayan forward converted a penalty after he was brought down by Guillermo Balzi two minutes from time at La Bombonera.
The result of the Group B fixture had little impact on the rest of the competition as neither team is in contention for the quarterfinals with one match day remaining in the regular season.
Elsewhere, Colon rose to fourth in Group A with a 3-0 home victory over Talleres Cordoba. Baldomero Perlaza and Ramon Abila scored early before Tomas Galvan completed the rout with a 58th-minute strike.
In other fixtures, Platense drew 1-1 at Tigre, Belgrano cruised to a 4-1 victory over Union Santa Fe, and Independiente were held to a goalless home draw by Banfield. ■
