ASUNCION, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Newcastle forward Miguel Almiron will miss Paraguay's FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Colombia due to a hamstring injury, the Paraguayan Football Association (APF) said on Sunday.
The 29-year-old limped off the pitch while clutching his right thigh during the first half of Newcastle's 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday.
Subsequent scans showed that he has a grade one muscle tear, the APF said in a statement.
Paraguay will meet Chile in Santiago on November 16 and Colombia in Asuncion five days later.
The Albirroja are currently seventh in the 10-team South American qualifying group with one win, a draw and two defeats so far.
The top six teams at the end of the qualifying campaign will earn an automatic place at the 2026 World Cup, to be played in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The seventh-ranked side will advance to an intercontinental playoff. ■
