JAKARTA, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government is seeking investors to build residential complexes in its ongoing project for a new capital city named Nusantara, said a senior official on Monday.
The new capital, located on the island of Borneo in the East Kalimantan province, will require at least 16,000 residential units, Iwan Suprijanto, the Public Works and Housing Ministry's director general of housing, said.
For phase one, 2,500 units will be built using the state budget, and 30,000 units will use cooperation schemes between the government and business entities.
"The need for houses and related properties in our new capital is very high because we will move the central governmental offices and the civil servants. Therefore, we would like to open up investment opportunities in housing and properties," Iwan said in a written statement.
He said that the country needs investors who could be committed to sustainability and environmental protection as the new capital is set to embody smart and green concepts.
The Indonesian government, he said, will make it easier for investors to do business in the country through fiscal and non-fiscal support, including tax incentives and facilitation of land provision.
"This is a golden opportunity to invest in our upcoming new capital city. For us, this investment will help with national economic recovery and create job opportunities for the local people," he said. ■
