ATHENS, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Greece supports Cyprus' initiative to open a maritime corridor to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said here on Friday, after talks with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides.

The Greek leader also reiterated Greece's strong support for efforts to resolve the long-standing Cyprus issue, during joint statements to the press after the First Greece-Cyprus High-level Cooperation Council.

Mitsotakis expressed the Greek government's willingness to participate in Cyprus' plan to gather tons of international aid in one of its ports, to be delivered directly to Gaza by ship in collaboration with Israel.

Regarding the Cypriot issue, Mitsotakis said: "The (other side's) position calling for two states is totally unacceptable for us."

"At the same time, Greece continues efforts to improve relations with Türkiye," he added.

Turkish troops occupied 37.5 percent of Cypriot territory in 1974, in a military action spurred by a short-lived coup of the military rulers of Greece.
