MEXICO CITY, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Nicaragua's government on Friday highlighted the presence of its business sector and promotion of export goods at the just-concluded sixth China International Import Expo (CIIE).

Due to its size and attendance, the CIIE "has positioned itself as the most important trade fair in the world and an important platform for access to the Chinese market," said the president's office in a press release.

During this year's expo, the government delegation and private sector representatives at the Central American country's national pavilion showcased "Nicaragua's excellent agricultural and fishing products, as well as attractive investment, trade and tourism opportunities," it said.

Numerous Chinese and foreign business owners expressed interest in Nicaraguan products and inquired about its top exports, such as coffee, seafood, meat, sugar, peanuts, honey, rum, tobacco and chocolate.

The Nicaraguan pavilion welcomed about 500 people daily during the expo, leading to optimism in the business sector about growth in trade with China, the release said, adding that the participants expressed their willingness to take part in the next edition in 2024.

The sixth edition of the CIIE was held on Nov. 5-10 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, with the participation of 154 countries, regions and international organizations.

More than 3,400 companies from 128 countries and regions took part in the event's business exhibition, which registered a total of 78.41 billion U.S. dollars worth of tentative agreements for one-year purchases of goods and services, up 6.7 percent compared to the previous edition, according to the official figures of the organizers.
