TEHRAN, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Iran and Afghanistan have signed five agreements on expanding bilateral economic cooperation, Iran's official news agency IRNA reported on Friday.
The agreements covered cooperation in the sectors of transportation, civil aviation, mining, free trade zones, and cooperation with Iran's Esfahan Steel Company.
In an address to the meeting, the special representative of Iran to Afghanistan Hassan Kazemi-Qomi said expanding bilateral economic cooperation would contribute to Afghanistan's stability and security and help reduce the country's problems.
Afghan Acting Minister for Commerce and Industry Nooruddin Azizi said his government sought to increase annual trade with Iran to 10 billion U.S. dollars, adding that his country was no longer in need of Europe as the neighboring Iran had advanced technological capabilities. ■
