KABUL, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Construction of a new hydropower plant has started in the Chak district of east Afghanistan's Wardak province, a statement of the country's Ministry of Energy and Water said on Friday.
At a cost of more than 164 million afghanis (about 2.25 million U.S. dollars), the provincial authorities would fund the essential project.
According to the statement, the project would be completed within 18 months, and thousands of families would benefit from a more stable electricity supply in their daily life and work.
The Afghan caretaker government has launched small and medium development projects in different provinces in a bid to create job opportunities for locals. ■
