KABUL, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- An international conference on the economic development of Afghanistan kicked off in the country's capital of Kabul on Monday, attracting some 500 scholars and guests from home and overseas.

Themed "Creating the Afghan Economic Miracle," the three-day conference held by the Ibn-E-Sina Research and Development Center will cover agriculture, education, health care and other topics.

During the opening ceremony, Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai, the Afghan caretaker government's acting deputy foreign minister for political affairs, called upon Afghan and foreign companies to invest in the war-ravaged country.

"We want the domestic and foreign investors to invest in Afghanistan. The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is peaceful and provides all facilities to the investors," Stanekzai told a gathering of Afghans and foreign experts.

Stanekzai also called upon Afghan experts living abroad to return to their country and contribute to the reconstruction process of Afghanistan.

"Once again, I am calling upon Afghans living abroad to return home and rebuild their country," Stanekzai said in his speech, adding that the doctors, professors, scientists and scholars are expected to return to the country and serve until Afghanistan stands on its feet in all fields including economy and education.

"The aim of this conference is that we would like to present a plan or strategy for the future development of Afghanistan. The international experts have worked on this plan, and we analyzed this plan and would like to present it today at this conference," said Abdul Fattah Rufi, one of the organizers of the conference.
