ANKARA, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Gaza must be part of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state once the Israel-Hamas conflict is over, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday.
"Once all of what is happening is finished, we want to see Gaza as a peaceful region that is part of an independent Palestinian state, on the 1967 borders, with territorial integrity and east Jerusalem as its capital," the semi-official Anadolu Agency quoted Erdogan as saying on his return flight from Kazakhstan.
He also said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cannot in any way be taken as a counterpart for Türkiye anymore after Israel's offensive in the Gaza Strip.
However, Erdogan said there can be no such thing as completely severing ties, especially in international diplomacy, noting that Turkish ministers and intelligence chief are in talks with their Israeli counterparts.
The Turkish president emphasized that Türkiye's main goal is to establish final peace on the Israel-Palestine issue, noting his country has and will continue to make efforts in this regard. ■
